Mike Collinson is a singer songwriter who has worked hard on achieving his original sound in both his voice and his compositions. He has achieved a modicum of popularity in the pubs and music venues of York working under the name “One Mike Stand” and is ready to branch out even further a-field. His interest in music stems from such greats as The Kinks and David Bowie this you can tell from his manner and lyrical content. He has been heavily influenced also by some of the country greats like Johnny Cash and Slim Whitman. Don’t be fooled to believe he is a country player though for he can attack Blues and Acoustic Rock with the same gusto and style. During the last year alone One Mike Stand has played such venues as Fibbers in York, a member of the Barfly group and The Welly Club in Hull as part of a regional festival. At the youth-full age of twenty four he has come a long way and has a long way to go, this is the start of a long road but he is ready for any challenge as his set list shows, he often takes a challenge from the audience of spontaneously ad-libbing a song both musically and lyrically always a crowd pleaser. He combines clever lyrics and a wry sense of humour to keep the crowd hanging onto his every word and always has a witty retort or humorous tale to regale. Mike Collinson has played with various bands as both a live session musician and collaborator on material. But it is his solo live shows he is best known for and that he enjoys the most. Recently he has been working on recording his own backing tracks to fill out his sound even more. This shows his musical abilities even more. He is also currently working on his first solo album to be released locally in the near future.
